Keep the blog alive

Yesterday I did some concentrated thinking about this blog.

I suppose the Irish Blog Awards 2010 had an influence on me.  I wasn’t there, in Galway. But realised I’ve got into the habit of relying on Twitter for my blogging. Twitter brings blogs to my attention. I read blogs that others put in front of me.

Looking back over this blog, I see how infrequently I’ve published content. This means I’m not offering others an opportunity to share my interests. In business terms, I haven’t been putting the blog to “good enough” use. My on-line presence isn’t strong enough.

I could be a lot better at linking with customers. Existing and potential…

I had to confront this yesterday when Aodan Enright (@smarteregg on Twitter) interviewed me. Aodan is facilitating a development programme called SmarterEgg. It’s starting now and I’m on it.  The learning programme asked me:

Is your business is in good shape on-line?

No.  It could be a lot better.

Action Plan:
I’m going to improve the on-line connection between the business & customers.  This blog is a key. Content I’m going to share here is the story of how I strive to make things better. My business needs better results.  As its owner, I have a big vested interest in being in great contact with others.

You can follow the trials & tribulations of a business owner as he strives to make better contact with customers on-line here.

PS: Special congratulations to Sabrina Dent for winning Best Irish Blog of a Business in #IBA10. Sabrina designed this website – before she fell from a train.
